Nerdy high school senior Danny has spent six hundred bucks on the hotel room, the limo and the tux for his prom. He's only missing one thing - the girl. Hampered by well intentioned but clueless advice from his newly divorced parents and unsympathetic mocking from his best friends, Danny battles peer pressure, teen angst and his own raging hormones as he desperately searches for a prom date. Macy and Cheryl Hines are perfect as Ernie, who’s looking for love on the internet, and Beth, who has a new beau), realizes he’s in big trouble, not least because even the titular Bart--a geek so geeky he makes Danny look like Tom Cruise--already ha! s the room thing covered. All of this plays out in ways that a! re neith er surprising nor especially hilarious, but the movie has heart, not to mention a number of cute, quirky scenes (many involving Danny’s well-intentioned, but mostly clueless, family). Movies like Bart Got a Room aren’t really about the destination, anyway; they’re about the journey, and this one’s a fun ride. --Sam Graham

His one viable link to the game at hand is his catcher, played winningly by John C. Reilly. The love story has an extra helping of cuteness, and legendary baseball announcer Vin Scully nearly takes on a leading role, waxing grandiloquent. It's an odd state of affairs when a movie carries a relatively strong creative pedigree and yet seems to have been brushed aside by the creators as if they knew full well how savagely it would be received by critics and audiences alike. Such is the case with Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star, which comes from Adam Sandler's production company and has a script cowritten by Sandler, plus a cast of eminently accomplished actors who either didn't know they were slumming it in a stupid, raunchy comedy, or for some reason didn't care. That said, just because it's stupid and raunchy (which it really is), there are germs of redeeming tidbits ! in Bucky Larson, including the above-mentioned performers along with the shear depth of its stupidity and raunch. Nick Swardson, a longtime Sandler cohort and a very funny presence in his many other movie and TV appearances, plays the title character under a ridiculous bowl haircut and behind a pair of front teeth that seem ripped from the jaws of a giant mutated gopher. He's an Iowa farm boy with hayseeds permanently stuck in those choppers. He knows nothin' from nothin', but vows to make it as a modern-day porn star after a weirdo TV party gives him evidence that his parents were industry icons in the 1970s, thus making him born to a lineage despite his crazy look, crazy talk, and crazy brain. The other obstacle he faces is a piece of fleshy manhood that's, well, a little on the small side, to put it mildly. In a sequence of events so stupid and raunchy that they do have the necessary ingredients for some measure of possibly drunken hilarity, it turns out that his ! massive under-equipment and contingent hair trigger gain him e! xactly t he kind of stardom he knew he was born to (his shortcomings make other men feel better about themselves). It seems kind of silly to lament that everyone involved didn't make more of an effort to put Bucky Larson in a higher class since everything about it is so utterly low class. But with a cast that includes Edward Herrmann (Bucky's dad), Stephen Dorff (a rival porn star), Christina Ricci (Bucky's forlorn girlfriend), Don Johnson (a washed-up porn director), and the talented Swardson himself, it feels like the sloppiness of the whole affair is just plain lazy. Critical reception for The Fountain has been nothing short of bloodthirsty, with Cannes audiences booing, but there are elements to enjoy here, even if the premise throws one for a loop. Ellen Burstyn (who earned an Oscar nomination for Requiem) delivers a typically solid performance as Jackman's boss in the present day sequence, and special effects (most done without the benefit of CGI) are also impressive given the film's low budget (spurred by a mid-production shutdown after original stars Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett ankled the picture). Max also meets the doe-eyed Kamila (Tamara Feldman), who may or may not be part of the conspiracy against him. Together, Reed and Grant try to help Max unmask! the player behind a plot to turn the world into a global poli! ce state , and speed is of the essence since the previous cell phone recipients have all met their respective makers. Despite the name cast, Greg Marcks's follow-up to 11:14 never hits the same dramatic heights as similarly-themed techno-thrillers like Eagle Eye and the Bourne series, but it's a reasonably diverting entertainment, especially if you like a healthy dose of paranoia mixed in with your gunplay and car chases. --Kathleen C. (Drama) A sexy and steamy story about a disparate group of Londoners connected by a string of burglaries and a passionate affair.The atmospheric and erotically charged Breaking and Entering reunites director Anthony Minghella with Jude Law (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Cold Mountain) and the haunting Juliette Binoche (The English Patient, for which she and Minghella won Academy Awards). Law fully invests himself as pre-occupied landscape architect Will Francis, who with his ! partner (Martin Freeman from the original British version of The Office), is heading a gentrification project in London's seedy, crime-plagued King's Cross neighborhood. At home, he and Liv (Robin Penn Wright), his morose Swedish-American girlfriend of 10 years, are increasingly estranged over the demands of his job and of caring for Liv's autistic daughter, a 13-year-old aspiring gymnast. Will, hiding his identity, begins an affair with Amira (Binoche), the mother of a youth who has twice ransacked Will's office. Amira is a Bosnian refugee with a fierce survival streak that is not above blackmail when she learns who Will is. This is Minghella's first original screenplay since his little-known romantic gem Truly Madly Deeply. The dialogue has Woody Allen pretensions: A cleaning woman who comes under suspicion for the break-ins invokes Kafka. A prostitute (Vera Farmiga giving the film's liveliest performance) has a philosophical bent. Will himself ham-handedly ! explains how he much prefers metaphors to straightforward comm! unicatio n (he'd love this film's title). An art-house film with an A-list cast and wrenching performances, Breaking and Entering couldn't get arrested in theatres, but it is a fine addition to Crash and other liberal-minded "them and us" dramas. --Donald Liebenson
